One of the most beautifully designed and crafted examples of early Gorham silver
we have owned in 45 years collecting.
It features the original boldly cast sphinx finial,
maiden bust crowned handles, classical medallion joined by hand engraved floral sprays and
seated cherub with toasting glass handle.
It bears Gorham's rare lion facing right hallmark, illustrated in Carpenter's text page 229,
one of the firm's most rare hallmarks.
Also stamped OLD SILVER & S&M

This Egyptian silver tea urn 16 1/2 inches tall & 9 inches across
the maiden head crowned handle and weighs 96 standard ounces.
Period engraved Gothic W for the original owner.
Hallmarked as shown.
In very fine if not near perfect condition.
Rich silver patina.
Retains the original hand carved detail throughout.
Covers close flush, handles secure.
