We are not gemologists, we do not distinguish between treated and untreated, natural or synthetic gemstones in our listings (unless it clearly represented on the designer's/vendor's website or otherwise known to us). Metal
All jewelry metal has been tested regardless of hallmarks, markings, signatures, etc. using ThermoScientific™ Niton™ XL2 Analyzer (Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence).
Stones
Most stones are tested Presidium® Gem Tester II when possible. Where the jewelry settings allow diamonds and diamond simulants are tested using a Gemoro Testerossa testing wand.
If we can determine synthetic and artificial gems, it is noted. Gemstones without the designation “lab” or “synthetic” are unknown to us and are assumed to be lab created/synthetic. There are many names for varieties of Quartz Chalcedony, some are trade names or more common names, these are often represented as types of Jasper or Agate. Quartz as a mineral is abundant and represents the majority of gemstones we list, however please note Quartz (Particularly popular stones like Amethyst, Ametrine and Citrine) can also be Lab-created/synthetic, we do not distinguish between natural or lab created quartzes.
Pearls
SF Goodwill does not have equipment to test cultured vs. natural pearls. We assume that they are cultured. Faux pearls are noted when found. Cultured pearls and natural pearls are both real pearls. Natural pearls are uncommon and requires specialized gemological equipment to determine authenticity. We assume all pearls are cultured pearls, unless they are known to be faux/simulated. NOTE: Cultured pearl necklaces and bracelets may need restringing or knotting.
Amber
SF Goodwill does not have equipment to test manufactured amber vs natural amber. Therefore, we do not distinguish between natural or manufactured amber.
Turquoise
We do not distinguish between natural and treated turquoise. The natural gemstone is often subjected to many different treatment types to ensure color stability and wearability. If simulated stones are known it is detailed, there are several natural gemstones that might simulate Turquoise. We attempt to the best of our abilities to detail this information when it is known to us.
Measurements
Millimeters are precise and a standard jewelry industry practice to measure most jewelry. Digital micrometers are used for millimeter measurements.
Inches are used for necklace & bracelet lengths. Standard Unit flex tape measures are used for measurement of inches.
Weights are determined by desktop sized digital scales.
Due to the differences in calibration of machines, please consider our measurements as approximations

In addition, education, job training, and employment services were provided to 3,200 people in our three-county region, and 10,300 visits were made to our Comprehensive Access Point Job Center.
