Charles François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776-1854) was a French botanist, mainly plant anatomist and physiologist. He was in 1803 appointed to superintendent of the gardens of Napoleon's Château de Malmaison. After the 1830 revolution he ended his career at the National Museum of Natural History as head of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, and eventually became the Director of Culture (chaire de culture) for the museum.

]. All volumes bound in recent brown cloth, with gilt titles, vol numbers and library numbers to the spine. Measuring; 19.8cm x 13.7cm. From the Traite D'Anatomie Et De Physiologie Végétales series. Taken from a greater incomplete set [see other auctions] we have divided these into subject matter. This auction being for Vegetables, plants

Vol 1 with 3 engraved plates and 2 folding tables, Vol 2 with 6 folding tables, and 11 plates.


Condition: See photos as part of condition report: Both volumes bound in recent brown cloth, holding firmly, though the head of the 2nd vol chipped and torn [see photos]. Lacking two plates. Brooklyn library stamps to the upper and lower fore-edge, Bound with later endpapers and pastedowns. C1 [p33] misbound, bound before p47]. Perforated stamp to titles and tables, gathering of plates almost detached, to vol 2. Stamps and library markings to title and plates, p153 creased, occasional foxing. Reading copies.
