LOT OF 100 BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED
BLUE MIEHLE GOSS DEXTER STOCKS!

This company was THE largest maker of heavy duty commercial printing presses and folding machines in the world! Some of its machines were the size of a small house!

Once one of America's largest companies, it lives on in numerous smaller companies today (see history, going all the way back to1880, below).

This long out-of-print MGD stock was engraved by the American Bank Note Co. and features 2 macho men flanking the company logo. A great piece of printing and business memorabilia. And this is the ONLY place in the world you can buy ONE HUNDRED pieces in clean choice crisp condition for the unimaginable price of 25c, less than half the price of a postage stamp!! That's below the cost of the special paper, engraving, printing and issuance cost of the stock!! Which is one of the many reasons paper stocks are no longer being issued and are becoming sought after collectibles.

Date range 1950's-70's (most are 1960's). Bearers include old time brokerage houses.

1885

Founded in 1885 to manufacture printing presses, this firm found a need for a large quantity of spur, worm and spiral gears.

1889

After weathering its first four years, Goss initiated plans to move to a larger facility in 1889.

1891

The company officially began operation at 335-351 Rebecca Street in 1891, and remained there for the next six decades (which included 11 subsequent renovations and additions).

1892

Firm’s two-deck design became the basis for the Goss Straightline Newspaper Perfecting Press, which debuted in 1892.

1893

In 1893 the World’s Columbian Exposition was held in Chicago and both the Clipper and Straightline presses were exhibited alongside rival machinery, including presses from Walter Scott & Company.

1895

The suit, filed in 1895, was resolved two years later when the judge sided with Scott, believing the newer press innovations were a natural progression of design and not from the patented work of Joseph Firm.

1897

By 1897 there were 125 variations of the Straightline press in use; ten of these were sold to printers in Canada, and another was sold to Cuba.

1916

Despite some wartime manufacturing in early World War I, the Goss Printing Press Company of England suffered from poor management and the building and land were sold in 1916.

1921

Sales and profits were excellent, yet trouble loomed on the horizon and arrived after Joseph Walser’s death in January 1921.

1929

Though Bert Eddy had believed 1929 would be a great year for Goss, the collapse of Wall Street and the onset of the Great Depression put the company in peril.

1965

The new $7 million manufacturing facility began filling orders in 1965 for newspaper producers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America.

1969

In 1969 MGD’s board finally relented and chose Rockwell, which had upped its share price and seemed, at least to some, the lesser of the evils trying to corral the company.

1996

Yet at the January 1996 Newspaper Association of America’s Publishers Convention, Rockwell publicly announced its intention to sell off the graphics division for $600 million to a New York investment firm created by Stonington Partners Inc., which would own a controlling interest.

1999

The venerable company filed for Chapter 11 protection in 1999 and restructured to save the Goss name.

2000

GOSS was founded in 2000 with a purpose to provide dedicated manpower service to the offshore industry.

2008

In 2008, driven by the demand from its clients to serve them globally, GOSS expanded its operations into new regions, entering West Africa and South American markets.

2010

In 2010 GOSS entered Offshore Wind, Dredging and Maritime industries, supplying manpower personnel to a wide range of projects both offshore and onshore.

2015

Building on its continuous success, GOSS has expanded its operations in the USA and Middle East markets and has opened representative offices there in 2015.

2016

2016 has been a year of transformation for GOSS. A wide range of consultancy services have been introduced, including E&P Consultancy, Commissioning & Project Management, Expert Witness and Process/Procedure review.
