Rare Complete G.I. Joe® A Real American Hero (ARAH) COBRA ASSAULT SYSTEM POD (A.S.P) #6070
The A.S.P. is a one-man, towable gun emplacement. It is typically towed by either the Cobra H.I.S.S. or Stinger. The A.S.P. features twin 120mm "Eliminator" cannons, shell-proof deflector shields, retractable front and rear stabilizer pads, and a protective roll cage. While in horizontal position the firing pod could rotate 360 degrees, when raised it was limited to forward fire with elevated tracking.
In addition to its formidable firepower and mobility, the mobile cannon featured the ability to raise it operator vertically to view the battlefield from a horizontal point of view. This provided the advantage of the weapon to operate effectively as a ground-to-air as well as ground-to-ground support artillery. A fully encased roll cage protected the operator in the event that the cannon was somehow compromised and toppled from its stationary position.
COBRA ASSAULT SYSTEM POD (A.S.P) History
The A.S.P. was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1984. The toy was also sold in 1985 and was discontinued in 1986.
It was later available in 1987 as a Mail-In Premium Offer.

The shields on the cannons are easily misplaced.

The A.S.P. [Assault System Pod] was featured in several of the various media of GI Joe through the years, including Trading Cards, Comic Books, Cartoons and Commercials.

G.I. Joe is an American media franchise that became highly successful due to the franchises various action figure lines throughout the decades. Owned by Hasbro, the company produces a popular collection of action figures and other collectables based on the G.I. Joe brand. G.I. Joe has expanded to various media forms that include animates series and live-action films that continue to display the popularity of the military themed franchise.
A Real American Hero (1982–1994)
The year 1982 saw the highly successful relaunch of the G.I. Joe product line in a smaller, 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) scale. The scale was the same scale used by the Kenner's Star Wars figures, but with many more points of articulation much like the 1970s Mego's Micronauts toy line which itself was licensed directly from Takara's Microman toy line.
This relaunch pioneered several tactics in toy marketing, combining traditional advertising with an animated television mini-series and an ongoing comic book. The decision to use a smaller 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) scale for the figures also made it possible for Hasbro to produce a variety of matching vehicles and playsets that further expanded the appeal and commercial potential of the line.
G.I. Joe's increasing popularity supported an array of spin-off merchandising that included posters, t-shirts, video games, board games, and kites. In 1985, both Toy & Lamp and Hobby World magazines ranked G.I. Joe as the top-selling American toy.
The 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) line was canceled at the end of 1994. This was also the 30th anniversary of G.I. Joe and accordingly, Hasbro released a series of 12-inch (30 cm) and 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) figures based on the Original Action Team figures from 1964.
