Back in 1870, Scottish immigrant James McCall began designing and printing his own line of sewing patterns. To promote his patterns, McCall founded a four-page fashion journal entitled The Queen: Illustrating McCall's Bazaar Glove-Fitting Patterns. Eventually, this journal became McCall's Magazine, which was published until 2002. Part of McCall's legacy that remains to this day is the circulation of hundreds of sewing patterns--giving the public the chance to make their own clothes, their own way!
