In November, 1947, Harold Henniger became pastor or Lanton
Baptist Temple. The congregation averaged approximately 150
at the time. Today, 31 years later, the average Sunday School
attendance is approaching 4500. The church is now located on a
12-acre tract at 515 Whipple Avenue. Northwest, Canton, Ohio.
Dr. Henniger holds a Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Bible
Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, and in 1963 received a
Doctor of Divinity degree from Bob Jones University, Greenville,
South Carolina.
The outreach of Canton Baptist Temple includes an extensive
radio and television ministry. Sunday morning and evening
services ore telecast live in color each week on Canton's WJAN-
TV. Video tope delayed programs are sent weekly to Akron and
Steubenville, Ohio and Allentown, Pennsylvania. In addition to
the broadcast of both Sunday services, the church's radio ministry
provides 13 devotional programs heard each week on local
stations. Canton Baptist Temple operates 41 buses weekly all
over Stark County bringing people to Sunday School, and con-
tributes to the support of 100 missionary families around the world.
The director of the Canton Baptist Temple Choir is Rev. Robert
Johnson, Minister of Music and Associate Pastor at Canton Baptist
Temple. He has been associated with Rev. Harold Henniger and
the church for twenty years and in that time has built the adult
choir into the 125 voices you hear on this album. Among his
other duties at the church, Rev. Johnson directs the youth chorale,
a select group of 32 voices, is in charge of a fully-graded children’s
choir program, and is also director of the radio and television
ministries at Canton Baptist Temple. He holds a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Bob Jones University.
