Offered here is a large bisque socket head doll from Simon & Halbig – her mold is 1079 and she is offered for restoration.  This doll came to me from the estate of a local doll restorer/collector and the family knew no history about the dolls or where in the process they had been.  The doll is offered as pictured and described – please ask any questions before bidding.  The head is marked DEP, Germany, 8 and the lower part of the socket has been written on and then erased.  The open mouth is painted two-tone coral and upper teeth show.  The dark sleep eyes are brown with painted upper and lower lashes and beautiful feather stroke eyebrows.  The applied ears are pierced – one has twist of gold wire, the other nothing.  The inside of the head has glue markings but I think that was from application of old wig which is not present.  I did remove the pate which is included, and stuffed the head with cotton to prevent rocking of the eye arms.  The body is old composition with wooden ball joints and all joints are mobile – she may have been restrung.  The doll is dressed in combination batiste camisole/pantalettes with lace trim, cotton petticoat with pleated ruffle and lace trim that looks like a work in progress and the same for her 2 pc. dress.  The hem ruffle is only basted in place and has lace jabot that has not been fitted in place as part of the waist.  This may have been an alteration from another doll and was being fitted for this one – or it could be used as a pattern.  There are no socks, shoes, wig or hat but she has lots of possibilities and I love the use of reclaimed fabrics.
