This album is dedicated to the memory of our father, John Harvey, who passed
away December 9, 1971. To his many friends for more than 75 years, his name
was synonymous with gospel music. Known as the "Singing Harvey *, it can
truly be said that he became a legend in his own time. Our desire is that we
might in some measure carry on where he left off.
It is our firm conviction that Daddy has only begun to sing. Many times he has
said, “I never intend to quit singing. I will sing down here until God says it is
enough, then I will join the choir the apostle John saw and sing on down through ;
the ceaseless ages.1' For this reason, the title of this album, and the songs
selected are about that wonderful place called Heaven. We look forward with
keen anticipation to that day when we will all sing together again.
We know that many of you also have loved ones over there. May this Album be
a blessing to you as you look forward to “That Great Gettin Up Morning.”
Si ncerely,
Theresa, Peggy, Dexter and Jim
I am honored to have been invited to pay this tribute to a great man of gospel
music. I feel qualified since I have known him so well. When I first estab-
lished a recording company in 1947, the first gospel recording I ever directed
was John Harvey and The Harvey Family.
I have never known a man with more dedication to gospel singing and the true
purpose of its meaning. He was a man who never sought the spotlight of fame. .
He never entered into the competitions of this music world as we know it. I
believe his only reward for all the tireless efforts he projected was singing to us
all and knowing he was loved for this contribution. This is what he wanted.
This is what he received. It made his life rich and full. I sincerely believe
John Harvey was a tremendous success in this life. He will never be forgotten.
He left an indelible place in our hearts.
