There are chapters on the discovery, early exploration and settlement of America by the English, French, Spanish and Dutch and their relations with the Indians, whom the author refers to as the "aboriginal inhabitants." You'll also find long and detailed individual chapters devoted to the history of the thirteen original colonies, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Major military conflicts such as King Philip's War, the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War or American Revolution, and the Civil War are also described.
