Dear Filmmakers and Enthusiasts,

Embark on a cinematic journey with my cherished Digital Bolex (D16) Cinema Camera, bought new in 2015. I'm thrilled to offer this iconic camera that played a crucial role in capturing two long-term documentary films—one of which you can view here:

Crafted to replicate the look of photographic film on Super 16, this camera achieves this goal with the unique Kodak CCD sensor with a global shutter at its core. The camera exclusively records in uncompressed sequential RAW at 2K resolution, aligning with the standards of cinema standard DCP. My color grader was thrilled with the footage, a testament to the camera's ability to deliver remarkable imagery.

The 2K resolution might seem modest by today's standards. However, this camera is for the filmmaker who understands that the visual quality and beauty of the image are about something else than just resolution. Otherwise, the camera wouldn't still be used in major productions, music videos, commercials, and available for rent.

This camera encourages a deliberate and thoughtful approach to filmmaking, reminiscent of the days when precious photographic film was exposed on a 16mm or 35mm film camera. It might not be your choice if you're looking for a run-and-gun camera.

The unconventional connections of this camera led me to commission custom-made accessories. For example, I had an external battery made with an XLR plug. With two monitor outputs—one standard HDMI for the HD viewfinder and an additional 3.5mm jack in SD resolution—I, as a director, held a monitor from the latter during shoots, finding inspiration in its vintage SD aesthetic.

Condition:

While the camera exhibits slight signs of wear, it operates flawlessly. It was built very solidly, and this one is ready to shoot.

The camera underwent a revision in Canada after experiencing a sound-related issue.

The Canon zoom lens and the Arri B adapter underwent servicing at Panavision in Warsaw in the summer of 2023, aligning parfocality with the camera. The visual result of this lens varies, with a slight softness at wide apertures.

Workflow:

You can easily edit the sequential CinemaDNG files on Adobe Premiere and add the sound. For grading, advanced technical skills are required, according to my standards. However, I was fortunate to have a professional color grader in Warsaw for my documentary.

Accessories:

  • Digital Bolex D16 Cinema Camera, Serial No. 1519N161499, bought in 2015
  • Charging cable for the camera with XLR connection
  • Adapter from C-Mount to Arri B Mount by MTF
  • Parfocal zoom lens 7-56mm by Canon
  • Matte box (compendium) with ND6 (10cmx10cm)

Please be aware that this package does not include a proper rig for the viewfinder.
