Historic National Road marker.

Up for sale today is this Historic National Road sign. Made to a general standard as used along the six states of the National Road: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. When the road was built between 1811 and 1837, this road traveled through what was then Virginia -- it became West Virginia in 1863. This was the first road funded by the US Government, and connected Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois, which was the former capital of Illinois until it moved to Springfield in 1839. Today, much of this road is followed by US Route 40, and was designated an All-American Road in 2002 (which only a few roads in the nation share). So here's your chance to own a patriotic symbol of an important, historic road -- just the thing to spruce up your garage, man cave, den, or anywhere else, even if it's outdoors!

The sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts
. It weighs about 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and is an easily displayable 16 by 20 inches. It is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors. (If you would like a different size version, please ask as I can certainly make one!)

This is a high quality sign made of heavy steel. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from bygone eras. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
