Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku 

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features an illustration of a statue of Nichiren who was a Japanese Buddhist priest and philosopher of the Kamakura period. This paper was made to celebrate the commemoration of the statue's construction. There are words on the left. This piece is signed with a name and red seals.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.

  • Good condition considering its age. Large water stains on the top and the middle. Tear on the bottom. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
