Like many people my age (72), Roy Rogers, Trigger and Dale Evans were our Saturday afternoon heros at the local theatre. There were lots of other cowboys and movies back in the late 1940's and 1950's, but most often Roy and Trigger were the favorites. Near the little town of Dublin, Texas was a nationally renowned Rodeo that featured Roy and Dale many times. I was born in Dublin and recently visited my birthplace. The Dublin Historical Museum did not have much about the Rodeo, but I did find the Bible and medical instruments of the doctor that delivered me in October of 1940. Roy and Dale were big movie stars by then and by the time I was 12 were interenational stars.
"The Answer is God" starts at the Madison Square Garden Rodeo in September, 1952 and reprises the life of Roy Rogers, his early years growing up, moving to California and finally getting into the movies. After his first wife died in childbirth he was paired with Dale Evans in movies and eventually they married and had a child with Downs Sysdrome, a little known affiction in those days. Elsie Miller Davis authored the book with much help and support from Roy and Dale. She, in fact,essentially lived with them for some time.She tells their story fully and frankly and takes the reader into their daily lives. It was interesting to learn that they usually wore western regalia when out in public, unlike current Hollywood stars, they dressed the part that they played. Little known to then and current fans and recounted in the book were the numerous visits to children in hospitals in cities on their tours. Many other things they did probably were not publicized then, but were an act of caring for children who were their greatest fans.
One such instance was recounted in the book by his manager, Mr. Art Rush. He related how prior to a performance in one of their shows he observed Roy with a young boy. He had the child touch his costume,his six guns, his hat and even Trigger making it clear the the child was blind. The child's father was in tears while this was happening. The child was placed on Trigger and given a ride in the arena. One can hardly imagine the emotions at the time. One need only know of this, one of only many hundreds of similar actions, to realize the kindness of Roy Rogers. He was truly a super hero.
Their handicapped child (who lived only a couple of years) was the catalyst that inspired the Rogers to turn to God for help in their time of grief and carried on throughout their lives. Bringing religious songs into their shows was their way of sharing their beliefs with the world. They are both gone, and the world is now a lessor place for it.
Their story is a testimony for their belief in God. They lived their belief to the fullest and this story shows that without question. Read it and be better for doing so.

Ok this is a christian book and it's told by Dale and Roy Rogers. This book was bought by a friend of mine and I paid for it with his money (No credit card) and I sent it to him he is very religious and he wanted to give this to his brother as a gift. He said it is a book that will bring peace to your heart and your soul.I think it is a good book the person who bought it is a very church going person.

this is such a wonderful and inspirational story! I actually liked it better than 'Angel Unaware' which I have read several times. This book really takes you inside Roy and Dale's life and faith, and how they were able to stay true to their beliefs and demonstrate to others how and why God is the answer. Truly an inspirational work!

I read this book many, many years ago and I must have loaned the book to someone because it disappeared from my library. I was so pleased to see it offered on Amazon and ordered it. I've just gotten into it now and it is just as I remember. It is very well and tenderly written. Of course I had read "Angel Unaware" which was written by Dale Evans Rogers herself and I still have my copy of that. For anyone who even remembers who these people are, you will enjoy this book enormously. It is so touching in some places that I was moved to tears. Both such wonderful people.

It was a great book, as a young girl I always watched the Roy Rogers show ( loved it) the book was very good, I learned who Roy and Dale were, amazing people with extreme hardships, and their faith brought them through it all. I do recommend it it was very heart felt reading , very touching , Joyce
