When you're the market leader, you look for other market leaders with which to work. That's why Freightliner chose Tonkin Replicas' Precision Series to help announce their new model, the Cascadia. Our replica is packed with features like a sliding fifth wheel, optional side skirts and all the other great features collectors have come to expect from the Precision Series.
Tonkin Replicas worked closely with Freightliner engineers to develop a replica that could be launched concurrently with the real model - yet another example of our extraordinary relationship with the world's OEMs.
Jack Tonkin has been building scale models in a variety of scales since the 1970s. Known for his highly innovative, cutting edge designs in 1:53 scale, Jack always sought to push the envelope for an ever-increasing level of detail. He was one of the first to incorporate features like an opening hood, setting a standard for the rest of the industry to follow.
In 2000, Tonkin Replicas incorporated in Washington state and the daily operations transitioned to Erik Anderson, the current president of Tonkin Replicas.
Since its original Signature Series, Tonkin Replicas has pioneered the cutting-edge Precision Series line, an ultra-detailed set of models which include new functionality never seen before in a diecast model.
In 2004, Tonkin Replicas reached out to broaden its product offering by acquiring the popular 1:64 scale PEM and AHL lines from Hartoy.
Recognizing a need in the marketplace for an inexpensive, affordable scale model that could be used effectively for a wide variety of marketing and promotion, Tonkin Replicas launched the ton 1:87 scale line of truck models one year later.
Tonkin Replicas remains on a continual mission to add new details, original features, and inspired design to ensure we are always building the world’s finest diecast models.
In addition to our already extensive list of diecast products, Tonkin Replicas is available to work with our clients on custom projects.
Custom diecasting is a long, labor-intensive, and highly specified process. Holding licenses to produce every Class 8 truck in the United States, Tonkin Replicas has been chosen by companies such as Boeing, Volvo and Freightliner to complete projects replicating some of their newest product launches.
Freightliner chose to launch its new M2 with a Tonkin Replicas Precision Series version along side, which required cooperation between the two companies on a strictly confidential project.
In 2005, Volvo followed suit by producing a 1:87 scale version of its new VT880 to help amplify the truck's debut.
