Up for bid is Quality Imperial Russian Silver Niello Cigar Case, Gilded Interior.  Case is made in 1880 in Moscow.  Fully marked inside the case on both sides as "84" - Russian standard silver mark (pictures ##8 and 10), with engraving in Russian as "S.E.", which stands for maker Semion Egornov, the owner of silversmith shop from 1880 to 1904.

NIELLO is a very ancient technique of decorating silver.  Niello (from Latin Nigellium) is a technique which consists in filling silver engraving with a special amalgam of silver, lead, copper and sulphur, obtaining decoration of different shades depending on sulphur persentage.

Russian Silver Art was at the HIGH point  in early 20th Century.  But, the Revolution in 1917 had terminated this work for some time.
Really hard to come by good Imperial Russian Silver.

This case is heavy (99.9 grams - picture #12) and solid.  It has unusual design: half is Niello and the second half is engraved and chased with floral motive.  Rounded corners and solid silver push button, with gilded interior.

The case engraved WW II period Dedication inside (in Russian, pictures ##7, 9, 11) "From Soviet Government to Tsirtsenis I.I. for construction of Pontoon Bridge, 23 February, 1945".

Size: 4-1/2" long  x  3-1/8" wide  x  3/4" thick.

The case is in very good condition with no damage and/or repair.  The hinges are tight.  It would make a great addition to any collection and/or as gift.
