Offered here is an original 1890's or earlier Four Pound Miners Drill Hammer and a short length of hand drill steel. Hammer head prominently stamped A. Dubois as well as J. Racky under the head. I am presuming that J. Racky was the name of the miner who owned this classic four pound hammer. Likely saw use in an underground mine back in the day of Hand Hammers and Hand Drill Steel used to drill the holes for explosives to extend the underground mine drift. Head measures 6.50 x 1.75 x 1.75 with a wood handle measuring 15.50. Drill steel measures 7.75", a good length for a Bull Starter steel used when first driving a hole in rock. Acquired with other mining artifacts from a well known Colorado Mining Artifact Collector. A dandy display piece of underground mining history that can still see some use. Thanks for looking!
