You are buying one Original 1980 Rubik’s  cube as shown in the last 9 pictures of this listing. It is complete in the original Ideal packaging and has not been opened.

Please note that the hoard I found are all new in original packaging, there were in a dry area of the same estate since new, over time some labels have lost their tack and are coming loose. I tried using a soft towel to re-attach any labels  however I wanted to keep these completely original and did not use glue or any substances I left these “as found” I have tried my best to photo the label as some are better than others.

I can not guarantee the glue that was used to attach the label to the package. I have checked to look under each cube to the best of my ability to determine that the directions booklet’s are included, as I am not taking these apart, the condition of the paper booklet is unknown. I also completely opened one to be certain of what these are like all appear in new condition. All have the Rubik’s logo most on the yellow but some on the red center cube as these were issued. It is my understanding that logo’s always appeared on the center cube of a specific color and that color varied. If there is any noticeable damage to the packaging other than the glue this will be noted. Once again these are in “As found” but never used condition.

As this was an unusual estate find. I will be selling one at a time. My interest in the Rubik’s Cube is as contemporary sculpture I am not a cuber I was interested in keeping one example for my own collection of objects designed by Architects. I’ve tried to determine a value of these as they are the original 1980’s run which were distributed in the USA as well as other Countries. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I have a few that are in better condition and a few in lesser condition. A few are missing the top Ideal gold sticker and this will be pictured.

1980 marks the first worldwide commercial wave of the Rubik’s cube. Erno Rubik a Hungarian architect, sculptor and teacher designed the “Magic Cube”  in 1974. It was difficult to get exposure for the design which needed to be exhibited at international toy fairs. The job of raising world wide attention to the Rubik’s cube was turned over to a friend who spoke both Hungarian and English. The Ideal toy Company of Newark New Jersey handled distribution in 1980. The original name Magic Cube is changed to Rubik’s Cube. This helped gain access to a world market. The original packaging is shown here. I acquired a hoard of the original Deluxe Rubik’s Cubes still in their original sealed packaging including the gold Ideal sticker on the top. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sculptural design which has found its place into many Museums.
