Rare Green Transfer Printed Miniature Dollhouse Plate

DRESDEN FLOWERS

Minton (Opaque China) Staffordshire, England c. 1825

This is an exquisite antique Staffordshire transferware miniature toy plate, circa 1825. Originally part of a child’s toy tea or dinner set, the plate measures 3-1/4 inches in diameter with scalloped rims and pearlware glaze.

Transfer printed in an earthy green, decorated with a striking botanical pattern of roses primrose and peonies with a simple swagged chain border trim.

The piece is marked with an illegible maker's mark. The pattern name is "Dresden Flowers". The pattern was made by Minton c1820-1830 in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern is illustrated in Lorraine Punchard's "Playtime Pottery & Porcelain" as well as in Doris Lechler's "English Toy China", the latter of which refers to the pattern as rare.

The plate is in very good condition, especially considering its age and use by generations of children. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. Typical manufacturing imperfections – kiln pops and fleck on the back side and stilt marks on the rim original to the making. A gorgeous example of a rare early English floral pattern. The quality of the decoration and detailing is excellent.Sold as is, a pocket size work of art.
