This is a very rare circa 1873 Royal Alfred Naval Anchor and Chain Copper Jelly Food Mold by Benham & Froud.  It shows both the orb and cross maker's mark and the English registry diamond (December 24, 1873).  It measures 4-1/2" tall with a base diameter of 5-1/2".  The detailed Victorian period mold features a large anchor with attached chains resting upon a bed of rocks.  It is in absolutely  beautiful estate condition with NO breaks, NO holes and NO repairs.  It shows a polished copper exterior, showing beautiful dimensional details of the rocks, winding chain, and bold anchor.  The interior is fully tinned.  Only the hanging ring has been moved 1/4", as shown in the close-up photo.  Prince Alfred was Queen Victoria's second son and was known as the sailor Prince as he was closely associated with the Royal Navy and was Admiral of the fleet from 1893 and Duke of Edinburgh from 1866.  This is an outstanding example of a very rare mold.  It would be a focal point in any collection.  Be sure to see our other listings for more antique molds, as well as other antiques in various categories!
