Medicinal Tea Tree is the source of TTO which has a wide application as an anti-microbial.  The Indigenous Australians in eastern inland areas use "Tea Trees" as a  traditional medicine by inhaling the oils from the crushed leaves to treat coughs and colds.  They also sprinkle leaves on wounds, after which a poultice is applied, in addition, tea tree leaves are soaked to make an infusion to treat sore throats or skin ailments.  During war time when effective medicines were in short supply medicinal tea tree oil or extracts were used for treating a wide range of infections and increasing scientific research of tea tree oil and its operative component TTO has established its place as a natural alternative for treatment of a wide range of infections in the post-antibiotic age.
