Orange, California

PLAZA PARKORANGE CIRCLE

The small town of Orange was incorporated on April 6, 1888. It was developed around a central Plaza in the form of a traffic circle (or "roundabout") which remains to this day. Because Orange was the only city in Orange County to be planned and built around a Plaza, earned it the early nickname of "Plaza City."

The land for The Plaza Park measures 170 by 200 feet. Therefore, The Plaza is not a circle, but an oval. The Pepper trees were the first to be planted in 1881 and by 1886 the present look of the plaza began. Most of the present day trees were planted prior to 1900.   Today it is a small park of palm and pepper trees with benches, beautiful rose gardens along with the historic fountain. It is truly a restful place to enjoy the charm of the Old Towne District.

Located in the city center of Orange, the Old Town Plaza is at the heart of the city's antique and historic center. The plaza is the site of many of the city's annual events, including the lighting of the Christmas tree, Orange International Street Fair on Labor Day Weekend, classic car shows, and more.
