Several variations of the grass skirt exist in my personal collection acquired during fieldwork conducted in 1992. The Asmat were made infamous as headhunters and tribal warriors in the 60’s when the son of Nelson Rockefeller, Michael disappeared on the Casurina coast of Papua in the sixties.
