Ring Style #MS 7

Jewelry Education - When purchasing a ring with a stone, you always want to have the ring made uniquely for yourself. Here’s why; Stones are fit, secured and set into the ring after construction. Most of the time a stone is set last because of all the various things done to the ring. The size of the ring at this point should not change. If it does, the round part at the top of the ring may alter the stone fit and crack, chip or break the stone. If it is sized, it cannot be truly round or these problems will be present. Never buy a new ring unless it is made to your finger size.

Materials –Weight for ring #MS 7 is 11.50 grams / 7.50 dwt. This ring is a solid well-made ring, made from Sterling Silver. When manufactured to each finger size the weight will vary slightly. We source all of our metals locally and are proud to use only recycled metals. If you would like a 14 Karat Gold piece, please call for an estimate. Approximately 75% of a gold quote is for the material.

Stone – Onyx is a beautiful black colored, natural stone that is also very durable. In antiquity onyx was considered one of the most important healing stones. This particular Onyx measures 12 mm X 10 mm. The shape of the stone is called cushion; a rectangle in any size. It has in jewelry trade terms a single bevel which is the side angle of the stone slightly angled out. This onyx is called a buff top where the top of the stone is slightly domed. This is the very best shape and cut stone for this ring.

Construction – The term “handcrafted” indicates that our products are not mass-produced by machines. Of course we use machines to make our jewelry, but it takes a highly skilled operator to use these machines properly. We employ a combination of ancient and modern techniques to maintain the authenticity of every product. Each piece is made individually one piece at a time and checked several times for quality.

Sizing – First things first. You must find out your finger size! What finger are you ring shopping for? Most jewelers and jewelry retailers will size your finger for free. We do have plastic finger gauges available for $3.00 plus postage if you prefer to size your own finger and/or have difficulty finding a jeweler in your area.  Once you determine your ring size, let us know and we will create a ring that fits your finger perfectly. There is no additional charge for making this ring to your finger size. We can make half and quarter sizes adjustments if you request.

Historic Information / origin / style – (A note from TR Hawkinson)  I am a great collector of antique jewelry making tools. I’m always on the lookout for any bench jeweler’s estate sale or auction. Over the years, I have curated an extensive and unique collection of such tools and these have allowed me to step back in time and re-create antique jewelry authentically! My current collection of men’s rings originated between the years 1938 and 1955. This period is referred to as the “Jewelry Retro Period.” The craftsmanship is superb, the style is original and the design is classic. You can’t go wrong with any of these rings!”

What makes this jewelry unique?

1.     All jewelry is made of solid Sterling Silver.  It is never plated.  The sterling we use is a new, non-tarnishing Sterling.  This “De-Ox” Sterling stays bright and shiny and will not tarnish like the old traditional sterling.

2.     This ring comes from a very special jewelry collection. We like to consider these styles “rescued pieces.” Having been stored away in a box for many decades, reintroducing them will keep these historic pieces alive for many more years. We also consider them a “modern made antique,” considering they are made the same way they were made when originally introduced.

3.     Each piece is hand crafted from start to finish. From the molten metal casting to the stone setting and polishing, this process lends itself to a truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.
