Born in Montreal on May 2nd, 1954, Cerj began painting and drawing lessons at a very young age.  He continued these lessons throughout his childhood. In 1971 he enrolled in Law School, and from 1975-1979 he studied anthropology at the University of Montreal and at Laval University in Quebec City.  His work is now shown all over North America including Denver, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, and Quebec.

"Artist Cerj Lalonde's discerning eye and aesthetic integrity have brought international praise and commendation. His work is highly valued for its original and innovative content, as well as for the quality of its execution. His paintings have been acquired over the years by both public and private collections. They have also been chosen for exhibitions organized to show new and significant trends in painting. It seems that this artist actually opens new insights into the aesthetic trends on which his work is based. He extends their scope by adding a subtle psychological tone as well as a perception of greater intimacy. Indeed, his practice of abstraction carries with it a philosophical dimension."
