Butterick Masquerade and Carnival

Costume Sketch Book from 1892

This CD e-ook gets you beautiful scans of all 178 pages from an extremely rare antiquarian costume book from Butterick in 1892 called “Masquerade and Carnival”

This stunning costume book pre-dates tissue paper patterns which came on the market in the late 1890s.  Instead this rare antiquarian book has beautiful drawn sketches of every costume and character in history or literature that I can think of and many I could never imagine...Night, Batgirl and Lampshade are three odd ones you will find. The pages are saved in the jpeg format to make them easy to use in your art projects.

This book is extremely rare.  I have only seen the one that I found in an antique book store in my 15 years selling sewing ephemera.  This book as 176 beautiful pages.

Here is a list of some of the imaginative costumes you will see featured in this e-book...

Helen of Troy, Hermione, Domino, Mephistopheles, Faust, Pocahontas, Blue Beard, Mary Queen of Scots, Cleopatra, Othello, Desdemona, Night, Bat, Devil, Peacock Dress, Rosalind, Orlando, Queen of Diamonds, Hamlet, Japanese Lantern, Etruscan Vase, Chrysanthemum, Friar Tuck, Little John, Robinson Crusoe and his man Friday, Aunt Dinah, Mother Goose and so many more.

Due to the age of this book, it is entirely out of copyright.  You may use these scans for your projects but you may not resell these scans which represent my work.
