En 1934, a miles de millas de nuestra islita, en Montreal, Canadá, un desconocido jíbaro de Barceloneta llamado Sixto Escobar hace historia, al propinarle una soberana paliza al Mexicano Rodolfo "BABY" Casanova, supuesto campeón mundial del Boxeo, tras mandarle a comer tierra con un KNOCK OUT que le dió la vuelta al mundo entero.

Desde ése entonces, Puerto Rico se ha coronado como Potencia Mundial del Boxeo, con 47 Campeones Mundiales, cosa dura de digerir para muchos países del mundo, dado lo insignificante de nuestra superficie territorial. Hoy por hoy son muchos en el extranjero los que se quitan el sombrero ante nuestros campeones, a los que sin embargo nuestro gobierno nunca les ha hecho un homenaje digno.

Aprovecha y ahorra, al comprar el set completo de las 10 medallas. Este set busca perpetuar este acontecimiento histórico, homenajeando, al menos a nuestros 10 primeros campeones, quizá de los más olvidados de nuestra historia colectiva. Disponible en mi tienda bajo la sección "DEPORTES"

This auction is for 1 medal, part of a 10 piece set which commemorates the 75 years of the 1st Puertorrican to become a Professional World Boxing Champion. This first triumph came to be when Sixto Escobar won the championship in 1934, becoming the 3rd Latino, and 1st Puertorrican to ever done it. As of today, Puerto Rico boasts on of the best, if not the best record, in the planet, in ammount and quality of Professional World Boxing Champions, a current total of 47 and counting. No wonder many of our ex-champions and trainers have usually ended as trainers to other proffesional champions, either by being paid to leave the island to help train in other places, or by hosting young boxers of many countries to come and stay to train in Puerto Rico, which is something we all celebrate and bragg about.

If you like boxing, you are invited to acquire the 10 medal complete set, so you have them all put together on a presentation binder, as well as save money, instead of buying them separate!!! found at my ebay store, under "SPORTS" section tab.

DESCRIPCION: / DESCRIPTION:

Medalla de tamaño "Peso", la cual mide 40 mm (algo mayor a un dólar de plata Americano) y pesa 31.5 gramos (algo más de 1 onza), tienen bordes acanalados para mejor manejo, y viene en su encapsula de plástico translúcido de alta calidad, para protección contra los elementos y los rayazos. Fabricada en aleación de níquel cromado sobre una base de bronce sólido. La bandera, ramas de olivo, y guantes del reverso han sido revestidos de esmalte sintético de alto rendimiento.  La producción total es una limitada a 100 piezas, cada una de cuyas piezas tiene la marca de fábrica "PRM" y tirada "1/100" al reverso.

This medal, measures a good 40 mm size (slightly bigger than a Morgan Silver Dollar), weights 31.5 grams (slightly heavier than 1 ounce), have reeded edges for easier handling, and comes in its own air tight plastic capsule. It is composed of thick nickel-chrome alloy over a bronze core. Reverse flag, olive branches, and boxing gloves, have been colorized with high quality synthetic enamel. Total production is of only 100 pieces. The reverse is mintmarked with "PRM," and each piece has been written "1/100" (one of a total limited edition of 100 pieces).

ANVERSO / OBVERSE:

Posee el nombre del boxeador, rodeado de la frase: "Orgullo de Puerto Rico. Campeón Mundial de Boxeo." A un lado de la imagen del boxeador se ha escrito el nombre del municipio del cuál es proveniente, año de su nacimiento, y el alias con el cual se le conoce, de haberlo. Se ha intentado de imprimir una imagen en pose de acción y movimiento siempre que se ha podido, excepto en casos donde no ha sido posible conseguir una foto real que muestre dicha postura. The obverse shows the name of the boxer, whose image, which is one of action and movement, except when no photo has been recovered to use it as inspiration, is surrounded by the phrase: "Pride of Puerto Rico. World Boxing Champion". Both the left and right of the boxer image has been writen with the place of birth, year and alias of each boxer, if available.

REVERSO / REVERSE:

El reverso contiene, nuevamente, el nombre del campeón, bajo el cuál se halla una bandera colorizada de Puerto Rico, entre 2 estrellas, y bajo la cuál se halla un resumen explicativo de los logros de cada campeón. Bajo la explicación se hallan un par de guantes color rojo obscuro, y la frase "Campeón Mundial de Boxeo". A todo ésto rodean 2 ramos de olivo, símbolo de la victoria en la Antigua Grecia, ramos con lo cuál se coronaban a los héroes de los juegos olímpicos (los guantes han sido substituídos por un número 75 que marca los años desde nuestro primer campeón mundial -1934- a -2009- en 2 medallas: La de Sixto Escobar, y la de Benítez ; La medalla de Gómez tiene una isla, y por falta de espacio, la medalla de Serrano no lleva nada). The revese has the name of the champion on top, under which we have a Puerto Rico flag surrounded by stars, and under which there is a short paragraph summarizing the achievements of those individuals. Below we find a set of boxing gloves, and the whole art is surrounded by 2 branches of Olive, that were used to crown the early olympic champions in Ancient Greece ( Due to lack of space, the boxing gloves are not present in the Serrano medal, there is an island on the Gómez medal, and different designs, commemorating the 75 years of our fist champion, have been used  in the Escobar and Benítez medals)

Enviamos dentro de mica, cartón, cápsula, o protector acrílico, envuelto entre cartón grueso o burbuja, dentro de sobre o caja sellado con cinta adhesiva a los 4 lados. Haremos todo lo posible por resolver su problema y ganar su satisfacción. Algunas medalla o moneda quizá sea enviada en cápsula de acrílico como cortesía nuestra. Debido a que usted pagó por la medalla o moneda, y no por la cápsula, nosotros no somos responsables de reemplazar cápsulas recibidas rotas. Debido a que las medallas vienen con alguna que otra imperfección de fábrica, es normal que una medalla contenga algún rayacito o cantacito mínimo de lo cual no somos responsables. Las antiguedades que vendemos tienen imperfecciones por vejez, uso y desgaste, que pudieran no reflejarse en las fotos. Por eso sólo reemplazaremos o devolveremos dinero en caso de mercancía recibida gravemente dañada. Clientes que abusen con reclamaciones exageradas e infundadas serán bloqueados en el futuro.

We’ll do everything we can to help you and get your 5 stars. Some medals or coins may be shipped inside plastic capsules as a courtesy of ours. Because you paid for a medal or coin, and not for an acrylic capsule, we are not to be held responsible over capsules received cracked or broken. Medals received from the factory will feature minor scratches or nicks over which we shouldn't be held responsible. Likewise, vintage items we sell may feature imperfections due to age, tear, and wear, which may not reflect on the photos. Due to this, we will only replace or provide refund on items received greatly damaged.
