Yugoslavian Flag Badges

During the Communist era of Yugoslavian history, the country was made up of six Socialist Republics (five until 1963, six thereafter) and two autonomous regions.

This listing is for a number of stick pin badges (lapel pins) which either depict the flags of Yugoslavia and/or the Republics, or incorporate the Yugoslavian flag in their design.

The essential Yugoslavian flag,  with the flag divided into three equal stripes coloured blue (top) white (middle) white and red (bottom) existed from 1918 onwards. At the end of WWII the victorious Partisans (the Yugoslavian resistance) displayed flags with a red star added to the centre and this design became the official flag of Yugoslavia until it broke up in 1992.

These badges are being sold separately so you need to use the drop-down menu to make your selection(s). If you are unclear about this feel free to get in touch and we`ll be happy to help.

I`ve listed 10 different badges in all. Hopefully, most of these are self-explanatory, but here`s some additional info on a few of them that may prove helpful ;

The Macedonia flag pin seems to be a variation on the Macedonian flag with a hammer and sickle added to the star and beneath that the letters `SKJ` (the initials of the Yugoslavian Communist Party) and some wording alongside that seems to translate as `Workers of the World Unite` or something similar.

`30 Year Self-Government`. This may refer to the fact that Yugoslavia broke with the Warsaw Pact and united with other nations to form the Non-Aligned Movement. However, there was a period of decentralisation during which the government of the day was concerned to promote  `socialist autonomy`, `self-management from below` , `self-goverment` etc. It is quite possible that this badge refers to that side of things. Please note that we only have one of these left and that it has a small chip to the red enamel on the right-hand side as you look at it (see picture). We`ve reduced the price accordingly.

`Comrade Tito` - the wording on this badge seems to say something like `Comrade Tito we swear". Please note that the upper stripe of the flag depicted actually looks green rather than blue. possibly the colour has deteriorated with age but having looked at the badge I personally dubt that, so would think it was just a mistaken choice of colour.

`Titov Drvar 1944 - 1984`. Drvar is a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the Communist years it was known as Titov Drvar, a reference to Yugoslavian President Josip Broz Tito. During WWII, Tito was a Partisan (resistance) leader and, along with his General staff was based in Drvar. The choice of years `1944-1984` may refer to his surviving a 1944 assassination attempt there.

`Susreti Prijatelistva`85 NLS` . `Susreti prijatelistva` means "meet friends". Other than that, I have no idea.
