I am pleased to be able to offer this rare, vintage, African, hand carved, wood drum which is covered with traditional Kuba cloth and which has a stretched snakeskin hide head and is decorated with cowrie shells and glass beads which was used for ceremony among the Kuba People of the Congo, Africa. Kuba drums like this one were used as a show of status and prestige and were generally not played but placed around the King's throne as symbols of power & riches during ceremonies.

This amazing Kuba drum specimen measures 21 inches tall by 7 1/2 inches wide and has a circumference of 22 1/2 inches around the head of the drum and a circumference of 17 inches around the base of the drum. This Kuba ceremony drum weighs 4 pounds and 5 ounces.

This museum quality Kuba drum specimen is in great antique tribally made and used condition with one broken cowrie shell and another cowrie shell has had it's fiber dart which was holding down one side of the shell come unattached. The top of the snakeskin hide head of the drum is in great condition but does have a few worn through spots on the rim. This drum does stands on it's own but has a lean to it and it looks better displayed on it's side. This Kuba drum is for collecting purposes and is not for playing but it does actually make a nice tight sound.

This antique Kuba wooden fabric covered ceremonial drum would be a perfect addition to any African art collection.
