HISTORY

Robert Pringle & Sons, Regent Place, Clerkenwell Road, London / Registered Oct 1892

The business was founded in London by Robert Pringle (I) in 1835.

The activity was continued by his son, Robert Pringle (II). In c.1882 the firm was changed to Robert Pringle & Co.

In 1890 the firm was active with premises known as Wilderness Works in all the branches of the trade, as gold, silver and gem, jewellery making, gilding, plating, refining, assaying, electroplate manufactory and silver-plate making.

The proprietor Robert Pringle (II) was assisted by his sons, James & Robert Pringle (III) (bullion e refinery department), William Pringle (silversmith department) and Edwin Pringle (watch department).

In 1931 the firm was converted into a limited liability company under the style of Robert Pringle & Sons (London) Ltd.

In 1899 Robert Pringle (II) took in partnership his eldest son Robert Pringle (III) and the firm changed to Robert Pringle & Sons.

In 1907 Robert Pringle (II) died, and Robert Pringle (III) was joined in partnership by his brothers William, James and Edwin.

In 1931 the firm was converted into a limited liability company under the style of Robert Pringle & Sons (London) Ltd.

"Rosamund" - Sleeping Beauty (French: La Belle au Bois dormant, "The Beauty sleeping in the wood") is a classic fairy tale which involves a beautiful princess, enchantment and a handsome prince.

The Brothers Grimm included a variant, Briar Rose, in their collection 1812). It truncates the story as Perrault and Basile told it to the ending now generally known: the arrival of the prince concludes the tale. Some translations of the Grimm tale give the princess the name Rosamond.

The brothers considered rejecting the story on the grounds that it was derived from Perrault's version, but the presence of the Brynhild tale convinced them to include it as an authentically German tale. Still, it is the only known German variant of the tale, and the influence of Perrault is almost certain.

In England the composition of sterling silver was subject to official assay at some date before 1158, during the reign of Henry II, but its purity was probably regulated from centuries earlier, in Saxon times.
