Shimano MTB wheel quick release/QR skewer with springs and nut

Please note XT skewers are now listed by style (solid, outline, etc.) so you can choose the exact version you want (please see photos). All are genuine product, Shimano changes the design of the logo periodically so I sometimes have stock of several styles at once.
Note about lengths: normal rear skewers are 163mm long for approx 135mm dropout spacing. longer skewers are 168mm. All are adjustable approx 20mm by using the threaded end.

Quick release skewers are for standard MTB wheels with 135mm rear frame dropout span i.e. a 145mm approx length hollow axle because the axle sit inside the dropout (QR shaft length approx. 163-168mm this is adjustable with the nut). Yes, 3 ways of measuring length, confusing! Basically these fit 95%+ of the off road bikes out there, but not for road bikes or newer MTBs with bolt through/142/150mm rear span. You can also return this item if it doesn't fit your bike or for any other reason, you just need to pay return postage thanks - but i've had very few cases of these not fitting!

Length:
I have listed a few longer XT skewers separately at bottom of menu; these have (inside of moving nut to tip) shaft of 168mm, for a max internal span (distance between inside of the two nuts) of approx 155mm, vs most skewers with shaft of 163mm for max  ~150mm span. If you need a slightly longer skewer this is an option. All other XT skewers (where length isn't specified) can be assumed to be the shorter/standard 163mm. There are also some longer versions of the Deore steel skewer, please ask.

Product Details:
  • All skewers are genuine Shimano product.
  • All skewers include 2 springs and the end nut.
  • Shimano skewers use internal cams for the smoothest and most reliable action available (most aftermarket skewers use external cams which are more exposed to dirt and therefore get scrunchy quicker).
  • For "materials" entry in menu, first listed is lever material, second is the shaft material (the shafts here are always steel, lever materials vary).

Weights (approx, +/- 2g on my scales) and notes:

  • Deore steel/steel 88g <- good strong dependable lever when weight is less a concern.
  • Deore alloy/steel 65g <- good value for the low weight (I use these!).
  • Alivio alloy/steel 78g
  • XT alloy/steel 64g <- to match other XT components, note the version/logo is as pictured. Comes in black with silver logo only - silver with black logo don't seem to be available any more sorry!
  • STX steel/steel 84g <- nice for retro builds?
  • Alivio rubber coated steel 100g
  • RSX/7 speed alloy silver (shorter skewer) - 63g approx. see notes above, shorter than others!

Note about the XT logos: there are 2, 3 now for 2016! - styles of genuine XT skewer design that Shimano have used, one is solid text, one is hollow/outline text, it's purely a cosmetic difference. Photo shows actual type you are buying.


Q: Which QR will fit my hub?
A: If you have a standard hollow axle off road or trekking hub, which includes most MTBs and many tourers and hybrids, any and all of these (except for the 126mm/7 speed when available, see above!) should fit your hub. Just choose the style/weight/cost that suits you. But none of these QRs are for road bikes (130mm rear) or the small minority of MTBs with bolt through axles (142mm,150mm) etc. If you find any incompatibility you are always welcome to return the product in new condition for a refund.

Unless stated otherwise skewers are for all 8/9/10 speed MTBs with standard hollow axle hubs. Not for bolt-through (10/12/5/20mm) applications.

Q: My wheel(s) have 12mm/15mm/20mm axles, can I use these? (on my frame with open dropouts)

Please note if you have e.g. Hope wheels where Hope make their own adapters, you should use the original Hope adapters because they are a specific shape. For other hubs, my adapters may save you buying a new wheel!


Condition:
This item has been taken off a new wheel and was never ridden. So it's new, but not with any packaging (will be sent in padded bag). There may be some very small marks or dents on some of them, but most are pristine, mint condition.

If you need guaranteed next day you must select GetItFast and pay the extra for Special Delivery. Please note Saturday Special Delivery costs extra also so the option at checkout if used on Friday would likely be delivery Monday by 1pm. At weekends & bank holidays the post office and banks are shut so please allow longer.

  • Delivery is anywhere listed above (only) for this item and includes any P&P fees. Items will be sent overseas with correct valuation and you are responsible for any import duties that apply in your country.

Returns

Although it's listed as "buyer pays return", if the fault is mine in any way i'll cover your return postage! Normally best to use 2nd class Signed For please, remember items under 25mm thick are large letter which is much cheaper.
