From Wikipedia:
The Cardo in the Old City of Jerusalem : after the Jewish rebellion led by Simon Bar Kokhba was crushed by Hadrian in the second century CE, Jerusalem was renamed Colonia Aelia Capitolina, and a long colonnaded Cardo was built, running across the city from north to south.
The Golden Gate, as it is called in Christian literature, is the oldest of the current gates in Jerusalem's Old City Walls. According to JewishShekhinah (Divine Presence) used to appear through this gate, and will appear again when the Messiah comes (Ezekiel 44:1–3) and a new gate replaces the present one; that is why Jews used to pray for mercy at the former gate at this location. Hence the name Sha'ar Harachamim , the Gate of Mercy. In Christian apocryphal texts, the gate was the scene of a meeting between the parents of Mary, so that Joachim and Anne Meeting at the Golden Gate became a standard subject in cycles depicting the Life of the Virgin. In Arabic, it is known as the Gate of Eternal Life. In ancient times, the gate was known as the Beautiful Gate.
The Moses Montefiore Windmill or Jaffa Gate Windmill is a landmark windmill in Jerusalem, Israel. Built by sir Moses Montefiorein the Yemin Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem in 1857, which was then in Ottoman-ruled Palestine, it is 59 feet (18 m) high, and at that time was used for grinding grain into flour.
The Tower of David (Hebrew: Migdal David ) is an ancient citadel located near the Jaffa Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem. Built to strengthen a strategically weak point in the Old City's defenses, the citadel was constructed during the second century BCE and subsequently destroyed and rebuilt by, in succession, the Christian, Muslim, Mamluk, and Ottoman conquerors of Jerusalem. It contains important archeological finds dating back 2,700 years, and is a popular venue for benefit events, craft shows, concerts, and sound-and-light performances. The name "Tower of David" is a misnomer, as it was constructed at least several hundred years after the Biblical date of King David's reign.
