This is a beautifully vibrant traditional antique Tuareg 'Adafor' tent cushion which was handcrafted from tribally raised and tanned goat hide leather which was dyed red and yellow and then sewn together to make this hollow long pillow cushion cover which was then hand painted with geometric designs with red and green pigment, also includes two central decorations on each end which are made of light aqua blue leather and red leather cut outs which have been embroidered and layered into typical Tuareg patterns also black leather fringe has been added to the ends for decoration. This Tuareg tent pillow has a slit cut in the leather on one end on the back side which is for stuffing the cushion with the desired filling. The Tuareg are a fierce semi nomadic people who range across the southern Sahara desert in Africa so being the Tuareg women are experts at packing and they would stuff these pillows with straw for use in their tents and when it was time to travel the straw would be emptied and the pillows packed essentially taking up hardly any space at all.

This antique handmade Tuareg leather pillow cover is empty of stuffing and is ready to be added to any Tuareg or African art collection or would be a great statement piece stuffed and used as a floor, bed or couch pillow and also would make a nice wall hanging. This empty leather pillow cover measures measures 45 inches long not including the fringe (58 inches long including the fringe on both ends) by 17.50 inches wide.
