DESCRIPTION
This auction is for an Action INDY/IRL, race car in 1:18th scale. This high quality replica features Al Unser, Jr.'s paint scheme. The color is white with black and red accents. The car is mint in it's original package. The box shows shelf wear with scuffs, and small tears in the outer sleeve. Please see the photos. All packing materials are in place. Action produces the highest quality, race models - one of the few manufacturers with a metal chassis. Remove the cowling to find a fully plumbed Oldsmobile/Aurora V8. The nose panel also removes to show suspension springs. This model features outstanding detail and value. Unser won a total of 31 races during his 17 seasons in CART. His career win total including IRL stands at 34, which is currently the sixth-most all time in American open wheel racing (as of 2013). As a two-time Indy 500 and two-time overall points champion, Unser enjoyed a decorated career as one of the most dynamic and successful drivers in American auto racing. Unser would go on to win a total of three races in his IRL career, but after breaking his pelvis in an all-terrain vehicle accident in October 2003, Unser had difficulty securing a ride for the 2004 season. He finally signed with Patrick Racing three races into the season, but after a 22nd-place finish in Richmond, Unser finally announced his retirement from racing on June 30, 2004. Unser continued to remain involved in racing, however, outside of a driving capacity. He served as an adviser for Patrick Racing and worked as a mentor for his son, Alfred Unser, who is currently working his way though the lower ranks in open-wheel racing.
G-Force was once again a constructor for the second generation of IRL cars. The G-Force GR505 would again visit victory lane in the Indianapolis 500 in 2000 with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya. Élan purchased G-Force in 2002, and the production of the chassis was moved to Braselton for its final season. The second generation G-Force IRL chassis competed in the series from 2000–2002.
