This 2010 issue is dedicated to German painter and printmaker, Albrecht Durer. Known mostly for his intricately detailed woodcut print work, Durer (1471-1525) is regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance, having established his reputation across Europe when he was still in his twenties. Struck into the silver of this rectangular coin is the image of Durer taken from the earliest painted self-portrait (1493), below is his name and the years of his life, while the 'AD' that he used to sign much of his work is to the lower right. Pad printed in the right portion is the image of one of his paintings.
