Also known as a Yorkie the Yorkshire Terrier was bred in the shire of York in the north of England during the 1800s from various breeds of terriers from throughout the region. This quick, playful, and clever animal was obstensibly bred to be a rat-catcher, but their fearlessness and loyalty have proved them to be some of the most able watchdogs. Also known as a Toy Dog, the Yorkie is excellent with children.
