Hallo and welcome!
Thank you for visiting my site.
Tuscany Books offers:
A fragment of a decorative illuminated Breviary manuscript leaf from a medieval liturgical text on vellum, produced most likely in a French Scriptorium in 1474, as the scribe mentioned on the colophon leaf shown up above.
The initials were meticulously executed with additional colorful decorations like flowers and heightened in gold, a true labor of love done for the greater glory of God.
It is apparently not possible for me to render a good likeness of the original, because the very thin vellum lets the color of the sheet underneath shine through to distort the original. Several buyers have let me know that the original is better than what the photo promises.
Condition: As shown, on very fine, almost translucent vellum in flawed condition: almost imperceptible toning of the vellum, soiling or staining, edge flaws, original flaws in the vellum, etc.
Pictured : Both sides of the leaf for sale. Due to the fine quality of the extremely thin vellum, it is difficult to capture the exact colors of the leaf and the original always looks better than the photographs, which is corroborated by the comments of my feed-back.
The leaf with the writing date(the last two pictures) is NOT part of the lot.
