Antique Crystal Palace Velvet Needle Book English * 19th Century This pretty
antique sewing case is made of velvet and
opens to reveal a silk lined interior with a woven silk picture of the
Crystal Palace in Sydenham.
It has silk ribbon straps that hold needle packets as well as a gilded
bodkin and a bone* button hook and crochet hook. Silk tassels are
attached to the front panels. Closed, it measures 6 1/2" high by 4 5/8 "wide. The velvet is in wonderful, fluffy condition and it all looks to be original. The Crystal Palace was moved to Sydenham in 1854 and I think this piece dates to c. 1870s. *These items are made of bone from a domestic cow (bovine) and not from an endangered species. |

TCI
Thimble & Needlework Tools Convention
Washington, DCAugust 15-18, 2018 Don't miss out on the thimble and needlework tools convention in Washington, DC this year (Aug. 2018). In order to attend you need to join TCI (Thimble Collectors International). There are informative seminars about thimbles and needlework tools, a great sales mall and auction and the camaraderie of other collectors. I wouldn't miss it. The members benefits on the website are also outstanding. They have dozens of research articles, hundreds of fake and repro items to look out for and a comparative price section for needlework tools and thimbles that lists years of eBay sales. You will also get an excellent quarterly magazine. Check them out at thimblecollectors dot com. |
