DESCRIPTION: Original vintage photograph, shows "1930 Mac McDowld and Mr. Dickie", probably Ohio, 1930. Identification of the photo is taken from notations on the back, captions in a photo album, or from similar images in the same collection.

From a photo album belonging to Helen A. Brouwer, who was born on February 28, 1907, in Sandusky, Ohio, and her mother was Fredericka Laymen Brouwer. Her family resided at 1316 Shelby Street in Sandusky. Helen had family in Pekin, Illinois. She attended Ohio University in Athens in the class of 1929. Helen's photos are almost exclusively of her female friends from the physical education program. The young women gave each other masculine nicknames, and photos show them quite affectionate with each other. Online records show that Helen and some of her friends never married, so without having any first hand knowledge of these people, there is a definite gay and lesbian interest to the images. Upon graduation, Helen went to work as a teacher in Bridgeport Ohio, and photos show that she was a coack of the women's basketball team at the high school. The collection includes vacation pictures from Ontario, Canada, and Illinois. Helen also went on to work as a physical therapist at Sandusky hospital. Helen died in Sandusky in 1972
