You are viewing a Tibetan Cast Brass Sculptured Kartika or Ceremonial Cutting Knife. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Kartika, Kartrika also known in Tibetan as a Trigug or Drigug, is a symbolic curved flaying knife or 'chopper', used in tantric ceremonies of Vajrayana Buddhism.
The Kartika is a key ritual implement in the Tibetan Buddhist practice of Choud or 'Cutting through Demons'... It symbolizes the severance of all material and worldly bonds, the bonds of Greed, Envy, and Lust. It is ritual instrument and is not a weapon, the blade is not sharp.
Formed in 8th Century AD, Tibetan Buddhism combines the essential teachings of Mahayana Buddhism with Tantric and Shamanic, and material from an ancient Tibetan religion called Bon.
This is hot cast Brass metal with a natural aged Patina forged by the Lost Wax Process... It is not a polyester, epoxy, resin or cold cast composite. The workmanship is very intricate down to the features on each face, headdress and the dragons scales. It is crowned with a buddha head with deer head on top. Below this is 3 heads and again below is larger 3 heads to symbolize looking in all directions. The base of the Handle has wrathful dragon that has the blade in its mouth. The Tibetan Dragon is a wise, solitary creature. Legends state it is known to have meditated with ancient monks.
The ancient art of Lost Wax produces a sculpture that will last for generations to come and one day will be the antiques of the future. Hardy Brass is suitable for both indoors and outside. CONDITION: This item is 90's Vintage, used but it is in excellent condition, it has a natural aged patina. There is no damage. DAMAGED & LOST MAIL: All items are sent with tracking. If you require Insurance against Loss or Damage please contact me for cost. If you require a Fragile Service, you will need to find a courier company who offers this service. Australia Post Extra Cover Insurance will cover you for loss only. Australia Post does not offer a fragile service so items cannot be covered for damage in transit. However I deal mainly in Metal-ware so breakage is rare. I always add lots of extra weight to the postage cost to make sure your item is well packed making its journey to you intact. I use heavy duty bubble-wrap and recycled boxes.
