Seachem Prime is a highly concentrated water conditioner for both fresh and saltwater aquariums. Prime removes chlorine and chloramine from the water and converts toxic ammonia into a safe form that can then be removed by the aquariums filter.
Prime promotes the natural production and restoration of the slime coat rather than relying on artificial or non-native slime compounds. It is non-acidic and will not impact pH. A further bonus for the reef hobbyist—Prime will not over-activate skimmers.
Why is Prime different?
Prime is highly concentrated, a single 100 ml bottle will treat 1000 gallons of tap water, removing both chlorine and chloramines from tap water supplies.
While nearly all companies manufacture a product that removes chlorine Prime goes one step further and also contains a binder which renders ammonia, nitrite and nitrate non-toxic.
When chlorine is removed it is broken down in a process know as reduction, this process rids the tap water of chlorine but leaves ammonia in its place. Normal dechlorinators break down the chlorine but stop there leaving a tank full of toxic ammonia, Prime takes the next step and binds the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate detoxifing and allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them
Dosage
Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 200 L (50 gallons) of new water, for smaller doses please note each cap thread is approx 1 ml. Prime may be added to the aquarium directly, but is better if added to new water first. If adding directly to the aquarium, base the dosage on the full aquarium volume. Sulfur odor is normal with use.
For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely.
To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used.
If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.
