2-DO-2 XA CLASS DIESEL ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE

NILIGARA

LOCOMOTIVE No. XA 1416

BUILDERS BOARD ROOM MODEL

This is the AEI board room model of the Western Australia Railways Class XA diesel electric locomotive.

Built by H Clarkson & Son (Model Builders) York

Scale of 1/2" to 1' or 1:24

The model is professionally built from brass and was professionally painted, with plenty of detail.  There is no model motor on the inside, but there are plenty of inner cabin fittings.

Over the 50 years the paint has either discoloured in some areas or has been poorly repainted over some of the brass soldered panels.  Some of the windows that have been made of plastic, have shrunk over time and can either be reused or replaced.  If you wish it would be a good candidate for some restoration.

Chances are a couple of these were made.  One for AEI and one for WAGR.  Comes in a period oak glass cabinet with makers name and description tags.

 Mounted in a cabinet measuring 40" x 12" and standing 14" high.

The full scale locomotives were built by The Metropolitan Vickers Electric Export Company Limited for the Western Australian Government Railways Narrow Gauge 3ft 6" gauge.

Forty Eight of these locomotives were built between 1954 and 1963

The XA Class Diesel locomotives were required to overcome the water and coal problems in some parts of the state of Western Australia.

They were finished in a larch green colour and named after Aboriginal Tribes. The XA Classes had a modification for multiple unit operation.

XA 1416 was the last one built and is finished in the correct green with the Western Australian Government Railways logo and the Aborigine Tribe name "Niligara".

The last of the X types was withdrawn in 1988 and 6 of the class are preserved.

This is a wonderful model of the locomotive, of which the original was assembled at Stockton-On-Tees.

A wonderful chance to obtain the genuine builders board room model for your collection.

As a matter of interest, my grandfather, Eric Diffen, was a Engine Driver for WAGR on steam for all his working life, only breaking duty for WWI and WWII active service duties.

Please note, that international shipping costs are estimates only.

Whilst I have to say paypal is available, I do believe that wire transfer of funds is advisable for such a valuable and unique item.

Every care for packing will be made.  The glass outer case will have to be sent separately to the locomotive.  Weight is approximately 20 to 25 kg.

Please understand that this is a very difficult item to pack for international transit and it may take me a week or two to sort out all I need for it to be packed properly.

It is advisable to use DHL courier as the item will not be in transit for any length of time.

I do think that if you are UK based you should consider direct pick up.
