This hardcover book of 192 full color pages presents the French furniture in its historical context from 1910 to 1920 from the Art Nouveau to the Art Deco, the 1920', the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs & Industriels Modernes from 1925 in Paris, and from 1926 to 1929, after the exhibition.
Expected in 1911, the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs & Industriels Modernes will take place in Paris in 1925 because of the tense situation and the Great War. Thought as an avant-garde exhibition, it will finally be a demonstration of the evolution of the decorative arts in the first quarter of the 20th century. With the international trends of Art Nouveau, the years 1910-1920 oppose a return to the tradition while being inspired by the contemporary artistic movements: the oriental color of the Ballets Russes, the aesthetic forms of negro art, of cubism and surrealism. The 1925 Exhibition will reflect the many trends of the time: that of the contemporaries who feed on the tradition and the beautiful work of cabinet making intended for an elite
