Made by the original
Frankoma Pottery
Sapulpa, Oklahoma

This is a terrific, vintage (1970s-1980s) Mayan Aztec patterned two-handled Sugar (Form #7B) made by Frankoma Pottery in the classic Frankoma "Prairie Green" glaze with its fascinating mixes of greens, yellows, and browns.  While the item is technically a sugar jar, it could just as easily be used as a two-handled coffee cup or loving cup.

This piece was made from the famous red Sapulpa CLAY of Sapulpa, Oklahoma  used in the post 1970s stages by Frankoma.  Frankoma initially used a yellow-white clay before they shifted to the darker redder Sapulpa clay in about the mid 1950s.  Frankoma shifted a third and final time to a lighter red mix of Sapulpa clay after the 1970s.  Please see photos below.

This piece is incised on the bottom exterior with the "Frankoma" trademark.

Condition.  This decorative and functional item is in very good/excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. The glaze is very nice, lots of natural clay color tones.

..Very beautiful, very functional, very Southwestern.
... a thoughtful gift for the collector of Frankoma functional art pottery.
... this would also make a fine gift for the alumnus or alumna from the University of Oklahoma (where John Frank established the Ceramics Department), Oklahoma State University, Tulsa University, and the many other fine institutions of higher education in the state of Oklahoma.
