Leamington Spa's finest purveyors of post-punk quirkiness The Shapes release a new 7" single featuring the songs 'Don't Play Tennis' and 'We're Not Very Famous', that were written and performed live in the band's heyday, but never recorded. In April 2016, the band got together for a few gigs and finally put the tracks down in John River's woodbine street record studios Leamington spa. The release is on The Shapes own label Sofa Records , and features specially commissioned artwork from graphic designer Peter Quinnell Back in 1979 The Shapes released their 'Part Of The Furniture' EP: 'Wot's For Lunch Mum? (Not Beans Again!)', '(I Saw) 'Batman (In The Launderette)', 'College Girls', 'Chatterboks' which reached No 2 in the Alternative Music chart. The record came to the attention of John Peel, who played tracks from the record on his late night Radio One show and invited the band in to the BBC to record a session. The Shapes went on to release 'Airline Disaster' / 'Blast off' on Good Vibrations in 1980. A compilation of all the band's recorded material 'Songs For Sensible People' was released in 1996 on Overground Records and in 2014, Paramecium Records released the 'Part Of
The Furniture' EP in facsimile of the original. Overground released a vinyl 12" of remastered versions of The Shapes catalogue 'More Songs For Sensible People' and 'Wot's For Lunch Mum? (Not Beans Again)' was released by Soul Jazz Records on the best selling compilation 'There Is No Such Thing As Society'
