One of the series of Lady and Unicorn tapestries from Cluny representing the senses. The sense of sight is indicated by the lady, who is seated, showing the unicorn resting on her lap his reflection in a ornate gilded hand mirror. She wears an elaborate brocade gown and a fancy headdress. On her other side, a lion holds a banner. The red millefleur background includes many kinds of flowers, with rabbits, dogs, a fox, and a small spotted wildcat. The trees are an oak and a holly. (This pattern is solidly stitched.) Late 1400's.
