New! 31-Page Illustrated Book

Early days in Stokes County, North Carolina, are recalled in this new 31-page comb-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from several vintage books, the oldest dating from 1851. These source materials include John Hill Wheeler's Historical Sketches of North Carolina; North Carolina, A Guide to the Old North State, a product of the WPA; and A New Geography of North Carolina.

The tri-color front cover is printed on 80# card stock and is protected with a vinyl sheet. The text has been enlarged to fit the 8.5" x 11" paper and improve readability.

Some of the places mentioned include: Danbury (county seat), Germanton, King, Hartman, Walnut Cove, Pine Hall, Pinnacle, Dalton, Meadow, Perch, Pine Hall, and Pinnacle.

Among the many subjects included are: Physical features, such as Moore's Knob, Hanging Rock and Sauratown mountain; Members of the General Assembly from Stokes County before 1851; Bios of John Stokes, Joseph Winston, Col. Benjamin Forsythe, Colonel James Martin, Gotleib Shober, John Hill, Augustine H. The WPA section offers a nostalgic glimpse of the area from a 1939 vantage point, offering many historical notes and sightseeing possibilities.
