Asbestos References:

This catalog lists several products made from or containing asbestos.  The following is a list of asbestos containing products in this catalog but is not intended to be complete:

Yale Spur-geared chain hoists used an asbestos disc for the BB & BS Models which ranged in capacity from 500lbs to 25 tons.

Yale Load King electric Wire Rope Hoists used moulded type asbestos brake linings.

Dresser Style 38 Couplings used an asbestos gasket option.

Crane 150lb Bronze Globe and Angle Valves were equipped with a No. 1 Cranite disc.  This disc is known to be an asbestos composition disc but not stated in this catalog.

Jenkins Renewable Discs - also known to contain asbestos but not stated in this catalog.

Johns-Manville asbestos products:
     85% Magnesia pipe insulation and cement
     Asbestos sheet millboard
     Asbestos paper and rollboard
     Goetze Gaskets

Asbestos red and black wire inserted sheet packing

BF Goodrich Superheat Asbestos sheet packing

Palmetto packings (too numerous to list) some were made from chrysotile white asbestos and some were made from African blue asbestos. See photos.

Additional Information:

Offered in this catalog were respirators and masks that protected against asbestos and pneumoconosis producing dusts some of which were approved by the US Bureau Of Mines.  These respirators and masks could have potentially prevented asbestos related illnesses when workers were exposed to harmful mists and dusts. All for the cost of $4.35 to $31.00 in 1960 dollars.
