A brand new O Gauge Lima ringfield motor conversion kit for Class 33, SNCF BB 67000 and diesel shunters.
No messing about with glue: this is the fastest, simplest and most reliable way to upgrade your motor!
The kit comprises:
a high quality, robust 12V-compatible motor,
professionally-designed 3D-printed adaptor,
replacement pickup retainer,
a 12-tooth gear, and
a length of heat shrink tubing.
This kit uses a 12V-compatible* motor, so a diode voltage dropper is not necessary.
As with all of our Lima kits, the conversion process is fully reversible, so the old ringfield (pancake) motor can be reinstalled at any time. The adaptor is also reusable, meaning the motor, adaptor and/or gear can be replaced with ease, if ever the need arises.

Please note that due to the size of the motor, this kit has to be sent as a small parcel.
Installation
With these adaptors, installation is easy. They enable you to quickly replace aged ringfield motors in O gauge models with far quieter, more reliable CD-type motors, without the need for any messing around with glue or fiddly shaft alignment.
You simply remove the old motor and gear, and then a) pop the adaptor into the bogie, b) slide the new gear onto the new motor, c) insert the new motor into the adaptor, d) screw down the retainer, and e) switch the old pickup retainer for the new one in the kit. Everything is lined up automatically and ready to go!
This kit requires no permanent adaptation to be made to the motor bogie and therefore the original ringfield (pancake) motor can be reinstalled at any time; the motor, adaptor and/or gear can be replaced with ease, if ever the need arises.

*The motor in this kit has a design rating of 10Vdc, however the internal components and windings are rated up to 14Vdc, so it can be used with both analogue and digital systems without any voltage dropping.
Compatibility
This kit is compatible with Lima's UK outline O gauge Class 33 and diesel shunter models (and other models using the same original ringfield motor).

Note: This kit is not compatible with the Fowler Class 4F steam locomotive...but our LO2/LO3 kits are!
Important considerations
1. The motors used in these kits are 12V-compatible DC motors designed for CD/DVD drives. The output from a DCC decoder or a DC controller can sometimes exceed their voltage rating depending on how hard hard the loco is being worked. Whilst our own tests (and those of many others before us) show that these motors are capable of handling voltages higher than their rating, please do bear this in mind. For DCC use, decoders may require their CV5/CV6 value altered (if available) to achieve the best running characteristics (as outlined in the instructions).
2. With these CD-style motor conversions, it is good practice to: i) maintain very high speeds for relatively short periods only, ii) keep running on steep inclines to a minimum, and iii) avoid coupled up with excessively long rakes of coaches/wagons.
3. We recommend that locomotives fitted with can-style CD motors are:
Not run without a DCC decoder as ‘Locomotive 0’ on a DCC model railway layout (this is will lead to over-heating and rapidly ruin the motor), and
Not placed on the tracks whilst a high frequency track cleaner (such as the Gaugemaster HF-1/HF-2) is in operation. There have been some reports that the frequency can damage the motors, although it is not something that we have tested.
