KING WAMBA CARNIVAL PARADE lrg T shirt Toledo devil dance tee Old West End Fest
This is a previously-owned, adult-large (L), dark-orange, short-sleeved T-shirt with “Viva Rey Wamba” printed on the front and “King Wamba Carnival Parade” printed on the sleeve. It measures approximately 21 inches (from underarm seam to underarm seam), about 26½ inches from back collar to bottom, and is in great shape (American Apparel brand, 100% cotton).
In 2006, the organizers of the 35th Old West End Festival reconceived the roles of King Wamba and Queen Sancha -- local royalty that appeared in Toledo 97 years ago. The King Wamba Carnival Parade and Coronation Ceremony is a revival of a huge community celebration that occurred in 1909, billed as "the Mardi Gras of the North," with six days of regattas, parades, games, music, and play-acting. It was tied to Toledo's connection to the Spanish city of Toledo and a legend about a seventh-century king named Wamba who ruled the Spanish Toledo for seven years.
